Behind the Curtain

Black Carousel Collective is an independent publication built around a shared love of live music and the people who photograph it and write about it.

I started it because I wanted to bring those people together. There are photographers and writers across the country putting real care into covering the artists they love. My vision is to create a home for that work, where individual perspectives can become part of something bigger.

The collective matters as much as the publication.

I want contributors to have room to develop their work, share what they know, and learn from one another. Each person brings their own taste, experience, and way of telling a story. That individuality should come through in what we publish. It’s what gives readers a reason to spend time here and discover someone whose work speaks to them.

I also want that curiosity to extend to the artists we cover. There should be room for the band someone has followed for decades and the opening act someone is hearing for the first time. For familiar names and artists still finding their audience. If a contributor cares about the music and has a story worth sharing, I want to make space for it.

Black Carousel Collective is still at the beginning. The goal is to grow thoughtfully, with people who care about their work, respect the artists and audiences they cover, and want to contribute to a publication they can feel proud of.

Mission

To unite concert photographers and writers from across the country in one independent publication, documenting the artists they love through thoughtful photography and honest storytelling.

To support the people behind that work, encourage discovery, and preserve the moments that make live music matter.
